Cleveland: Back in Action

I know we've been MIA this past month or so on the blog, but we've had so many amazing things happen to us that we haven't been able to keep up.

It all started back in May, when we took a trip to Western PA for my lab mate's wedding. We drove the 9 hours out to a town near Pittsburgh, PA to celebrate with the bride and groom and the lab. It was a ton of fun.

How cute are those little peach cookies? They had a huge spread of all kinds of cookies made by family members!

After the wedding, we traveled 3 hours northwest to Cleveland to visit with my parents and my grandpa. We've only been there once since they moved out there 2 years ago and the last time we visited, it was Christmas and the weather was kind of, well, gloomy and blah. There wasn't even snow on Christmas. So, I was determined to have us visit sometime during the Spring/Summer when things were in bloom. This was the perfect opportunity.

One of our first days at my parents place, we checked out a burger joint, B Spot Burgers, which is small, local chain of restaurants owned by Chef Michael Symon (you know, the Iron Chef).

My sister had come up from Florida for a mini-vacation and my aunt was visiting from PA. I haven't seen either of them since last year, so it was a nice little mini-family reunion.

I had the Thin Lizzy burger (on the left in the above pic), which had grilled onions, cheddar, and mayo on top and a chocolate banana milkshake. So good. On the table they had different sauces (coffee bbq... mmm) so you could add some flavor to your burger. There was also a pickle bar with normal dill pickles as well as a few interesting flavored pickles (like sweet hot), which you can see the awesome neon sign for above my sister's head in the photo above.

After lunch, we said goodbye to my aunt, who was leaving for PA and we headed home, where were greeted by my parents cats, Ollie, Remy, and Pearl. I seriously love these little guys.

Stay tuned for some more Cleveland adventures! I'll be posting photos from our visit to the Cleveland Zoo, Lake Erie, Put-in-Bay, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Brandywine Falls.

  2. Pickle Bar?!?!?! I love pickles (and no I'm not pregnant!). My husband is from South Carolina and had never heard of putting pickles on his BBQ until he became a Texan. I can't wait to share your blog post of a pickle bar. As always, I love the way you displayed the photos.....something I love about blogging.

  4. Yes! My South Carolina hubs thought it was crazy, but loves it now. It gives it a sweet dill taste!
